Unknowingly, down in the lower townhouse apartments, Fiona & Robyn’s uncle Brenton wasn’t having a very good day either. Ellie was on the computer writing her book when Brenton had decided he wanted to come down and give her a kiss. The next thing Ellie heard was him falling down the flight of stairs! He came crashing down so fast she hardly had time to react. She took off out of her chair knocking it over. “Brenton! Brenton! Answer me!” Brenton wasn’t moving and his heartbeat was irregular. She ran and grabbed the phone and called for the paramedics. They told her to support his neck by putting his head carefully between her knees and just wait till they got there. They told her moving his neck could cause injury.
She was so overwhelmed by what was going on she didn’t notice that Brenton was never breathing. The paramedics came running down the stairs and took over from there. They got his neck and head in a brace quickly but swiftly. They hooked him up to a breathing tube and was breathing for him. She saw they started to do chest compressions and charging the defibrillator.
“Whats going on? Why are you hooking that tube up and pressing on him. What’s that machine going to do!?!”
“Mrs. Pancakes, please, let us do our job.”
Ellie watched in terror as she watched them quickly pick him up and put him on the stretcher. They added Atropine to try to start his heart. She knew this wasn’t good. His heart isn’t beating and he’s already been shocked twice along with CPR. She’s terrified. She runs up the stairs with them and goes in the ambulance to the hospital.
Ellie didn’t have to wait long in the waiting room for the doctor to come out and let her know what was going on.
“The fall broke Brenton’s neck and his brain was no longer able to tell him to breath. He eventually suffocated while you were holding his head stable till the paramedics showed up. There wasn’t anything that we could do. Even if Brenton survived, he would of been a quadriplegic and would of been on a breathing tube for the rest of his life. I’m sorry ma’am but he didn’t make it, he was pronounced dead when he got here.”
Ellie fell to her knees, putting her head into her hands. Her body started shaking as she sobbed quietly on the floor of the hospital waiting room.
