In the hospital room there were sounds of quiet singing and the creaking of the rocking chair. Derick was softly singing to baby Annalise while rocking her as she ate from a bottle early that morning. She was the most beautiful sim he had ever seen. So small, so precious. Derick hasn’t had much sleep.
2 days prior, Derick was called to the hospital because his fiance, Fiona, was taken into an emergency c-section. It was supposed to be a happy occasion, getting to see his baby born but it quickly turned into the scariest event of his life. One that he will never forget. Shortly after Annalise was born, Fiona started hemorrhaging. She was bleeding out and the doctors were unable to stop the bleeding. Fiona had lost so much blood. Her face was as white as a ghost and Derick was going hysterical. She had fell unconscious and unresponsive. The nurses grabbed Derick and got him out of the room. All he could see as he was being pushed out was a breathing tube getting inserted into Fiona so they could breath for her while the doctor worked quickly. There was so much blood.
Derick sat in the waiting room for 3 hours waiting. He couldn’t stop crying. All he could think of was the love of his life is dying and there was nothing he could do to save her.
When the doctor came out to talk to him he was shaking from the anxiety that he had felt. The doctor just looked into his eyes while he told Derick what had happened. “We were unable to stop the bleeding. The only way we could save Fiona was to do a full hysterectomy. She will no longer be able to have children. She lost so much blood that her heart stopped beating and she was no longer breathing on her own. We had to do a blood transfusion and hook her up to a breathing tube. We will have to monitor closely. We won’t know what kind of brain damage she will have until she wakes up. Her heart stopped beating for 3 minutes before we got it started again. You can come see her if you like but she’s still unconscious and still on the ventilator. At this time we don’t know when or if she will wake up. If she does wake up, we will then be able to see what kind of damage if there is any that we will have to work with.”
The news hit Derick like a ton of bricks. He never thought this would happen. He followed the doctor to Fiona’s room where she laid, sleeping.
Its been 2 days, Annalise has been doing great. Derick has been staying with Fiona each day and night waiting for her to wake up. Annalise’s bassinet has been brought in Fiona’s room with him and he has been taking care of her. She’s aloud to go home today but they also said if Derick wanted to him and Annalise can stay till they know more on what is going to happen with Fiona.
Annalise was about done with her bottle when Derick heard a sound. He quickly looked up and saw Fiona’s hand moving slightly. He quickly, but carefully, put Annalise back into the bassinet and walked over to Fiona and held her hand. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at him. “Good morning.” Derick said with a smile.
